Don't assume anything

Author: Robert Gibson

Come on over to my town and I guarantee we'll have a ball. There's nothing I won't do. From sports to outdoor activities and back inside where we jump on monopoly or King-Queen prodigies. After the fun and games, I always make sure I put in time with my community. I might help cater a luncheon at my church, or participate in cleaning up the streets of Philly. But whatever it is that I do, fun or serious, I always make time for my family. Still, I can't forget what quickens me. My Soul is arrested everytime my pride go one-on-one with thee capitol orange 'B,' because I am a Dad by trade, but a blogger intravenously (profound). If you've ever gotten to know me, you'll say I'm someone who is extremely humble and at peace. I hold value of social manners in everyday settings to heart. I use 'please' and 'thank you' when conversing as frequent as American society use a fork and spoon when eating. I was raised in lower middle class. That means my parents never made enough money to be considered living a lavish lifestyle, but I never suffered the dilemma of 'not having.' I lived next door, around the corner, and in the mix of the ghetto. I witnessed members of the poor community everyday. How they eat, how they sleep, and how they interacted emergently. I was always empathetic. If I didn't know what was going on behind the scenes of your life, I consistently made efforts to discover the unknown until it lined up perfectly, revealing itself with primitive expertise. I tried to be present for many struggling families that might have needed the support in my early years. I'm talking twelve years old. I joined my neighborhood church a year later and found a lot of hope in my community thanks to my Pastor. My father was present in my childhood, but alcohol abuse kept him off the radar of role model. I searched and searched for guidance and found it in spiritual practices. I have came a long way from faith practices to truth seeking insights. Christianity to enlightenment. I am more obsessed with the truth. I'm learning to drop unhealthy obsession and just be. Everything I was before my spiritual journey is who I would like to introduce to me now, with Zen inspired history. Since I have shifted my goals and values, my(idols influential icons, have shifted also. My father has reappeared back onto the role model stage due to fifteen years of sobriety. My counselor was a man whom been sucked deep into the grips of addiction in his early twenties. By his mid twenties, he made the decision to only follow the directions of his mentors. They gave him the secret rooms of NA, AA, and other anonymous groups against drug and alcohol abuse. I entered his office less than a month ago. Since I've been going in and out, I've noticed some key things about it. It resembles that of a doctor's office. He placed a Certificate of completion and a degree catercorner to each other high on the very first shelf. He kept a brown leather work bag on a chair of its own in the corner of the room. The aroma of the room had always had a tinge of sanitizing alcohol splicing the air. I always felt sterile exiting his space, like I underwent sanitation on my personal character. Everyday I remain open. Soon, I'll hear something that I can store away in tactical memory. I am beating my road blocks one street at a time. I am putting huge amounts of trust into my own abilities to achieve each goal I set. We live in a country of freedom. That means change can never come too late for us. We all have to start somewhere. And if you're reading this, maybe you'll continue to read my blogs, and we'll grow together.
